Job Posting: Out of the Rain Project Coordinator
January 29, 2009

THIS POSTING IS NOW CLOSED.
Contract duration: 18 weeks* (February 23 ? June 26, 2009)
*possibility for extension dependent on securing additional funding
Contract amount: $14,850

The Collective of Gallery Gachet is seeking a Project Coordinator for the Out of the Rain Street Artist Program, taking place March ? June, 2009. The contracted person will support an exhibition and public education program in collaboration with the Collective's Programming Committee, staff, and project partner DTES Community Arts Network (CAN). The contract person will work collaboratively with the Collective's Acting General Manager, Human Resources Committee and the Programming Committee.

Out of the Rain provides up to eight DTES marginalized artists with the tools (space, materials, supportive environment, dissemination) to focus on their well-being while building a more community-engaged and sustainable art practice. Selected participants are artists whose everyday struggle for survival (food, shelter, addiction, health) disables their art production and economic sustainability. Out of the Rain also provides a structure from which to strategize with community partners on longer term life stability plans, to be established with and for the project participants.

With financial support from the Social Responsibility Fund and Direct Access, this year we are partnering with DTES CAN to access on off-site space. From this location, we will offer regular access to studio space with locker/storage space; art supplies; critical and collaborative dialogue with mentors and artist peers with respect to their artistic production and practice, and an opportunity to plan and participate in a professional exhibition in June at Gallery Gachet. There will also be the added benefit of developing a peer group of artists as a supportive, critical and creative network.

Duties include:
- design and implement an Out of the Rain participant recruitment and selection process, including outreach to local agencies and community partners;
- establish and coordinate a customized workshop plan and studio schedule based on the needs of the selected participants
- provide ongoing and consistent support, including liaison with any relevant community organizations and service providers that are part of the participants support network;
- identify potential retail and internet art sales opportunities;
- in consultation with the participants and representatives from the Collective, staff and Programming Committee, plan the exhibition scheduled for June 5-28, including exhibition layout, installation, promotion materials, reception, documentation, and de-installation;
- research and explore alternative funding sources and potential partnerships to support the program?s sustainability
- ensure comprehensive program and exhibition documentation and evaluation, and provide a final report for the program partners and funders.
