JOB POSTING: Volunteer Coordinator
September 14, 2007

The work of the Volunteer Coordinator is key to maintaining our programming and services, while enabling members of the arts, mental health and Downtown Eastside community to be actively engaged in our expanding programming and services.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator works in consultation with the Membership Committee and is accountable to the Collective membership. Applicants should have an understanding of, and sensitivity to, mental health issues. Education/experience as a mental health support worker is an asset as well as knowledge of art and not for profit organizations. Wage rate $14/hour for 20 hours/week. This position is effective October 1, 2007.
Duties include:
? In consultation with Membership Committee, continue to develop a program for intake, selection, orientation, capacity building, supervision, and evaluation of volunteers for Gallery Gachet.
? Promote the volunteer opportunities of our organization throughout the Downtown Eastside, the cultural sector, and mental health sector. Identify partnering opportunities in Vancouver for delivery of capacity building for volunteers.
? Work with the Membership Committee to ensure the sustainability of the program?s operation, in synch with the Membership Committee mandate and workload.
? Identify potential weaknesses in the Volunteer Program, in regards to turn-over and drop-out, skills deficits, etc., and recommend and implement strategies to protect the sustainability of the program.
? Identify prospective new roles for volunteers within the organization and write those job descriptions and required skills sets.
? In consultation with the Membership Committee, assist with the process of identifying prospective Collective members.
? Communicate on a regular basis with the volunteers ? for scheduling their involvement in the various Gallery activities, programming and events.
? Maintain Filemaker Pro database for volunteer program.
? Perform various office duties as required, including but not limited to: answering phones, liaison with members and public when required.

Qualifications
? Have excellent communication, computer & writing skills.
? Effective communicator, and may have conflict resolution experience.
? Be resourceful, and handle multi-tasking in a busy environment.
? Have educational and/or employment experience in mental health support work and/or volunteer management.
? May be informed by mental health issues.
? May have experience with: arts and healing, community-based arts practices, non-profit administration, social justice or advocacy work, and may have knowledge of collective, empowerment, and capacity-building models.
